* GI Tag to Assamese Pride Symbol 'Gamosa'

  Assamese pride Gamosa' has finally been approved for the Geographical Indication (G) tag recently. Now, Gamosa will have a distinguished identity all over the world. The application for the Gamosa was by the Institute of Handicraft Development, Golaghat. The word Gamosa was originated from a Sanskrit word, 'gatro marjoni', meaning fabric used to wipe the body after taking a bath. The 'Chokua Rice' has also given to GI tag with Gamosa in 2019. The other Assamese products to have the GI tag are Muga Silk, Joha Rice, Tezpur Litchi, Ginger from Karbi Anglong, the spice has finally made its way to the European and Boka Chaul (Oryza sativa).

* 65th Film Fare Awards in Guwahati

   Breaking new ground for the 65th edition of the most glamorous film award ceremonies in the country, the Filmfare Awards was held outside Mumbai for the first time since its inception in 1954 and Guwahati etched its name in history by becoming the new venue. On February 15, the city hosted the ceremony and the Bollywood stars descended to give the people of the State the opportunity to see them from close quarters.

* First CNG Fuel Station in Assam

   Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the state's first-ever CNG filling station. With this Assam has become the second state in the Northeast after Tripura to get a CNG filling station. It will have the capacity to fuel 60-70 Small passenger vehicles in an hour.

* Assam's Dikom Tea Estate Makes

    Records Arare variety of tea named 'Golden Butterfly' from Upper Assam's Dikom Tea Estate set a new record on as it was auctioned for 75,000 per kg at Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC), Assam on August 14, 2019 The tea is judged by its aroma, taste and colour and this tea is characterised by extremely mellow and sweet caramel flavour. It surpassed the previous record of sale of Maijan Golden Tips' tea at 70,501 per ka.n as

* First ISO Railway Station

   The Guwahati Railway Station has become the first-ever Railway station in Indian Railways to get an ISO certification from the NGT in April 2019. It has been given this certificate for providing passenger amenities in a clean and green environment. Environment management system of this station as per international norms which were upgraded in 2015.

* Srimanta Sankardev Award

  Assam Government announced the Srimanta Sankardev Award 2017 on March 2019. The award is conferred to noted Satriya exponent Baistha Dev Sarma of Barpeta Satra. Also, the Madhavdev award for 2019 was presented to eminent dance historian, scholar and critic, Dr. Sunil Kothari.
